The Republican Primary And You. Part Two.

The Republican Primary continues to deliver a message, and you should listen to it. It starts off with a quiet voice at first - and then , gradually - you become aware. The Republican Party is dying.

The process of death is multistage -and given that we tend to live in a Society of the Spectacle - Death , whether in Video Game, in a film, or elsewhere - is usually considered to be something that can be commutated but past a certain point, it is irreversible. Our bodies and those of other living things have a strange code within them that tells them when to die, and once that process begins it cannot stop. That is where the Republican party has found itself.

Consider the differences between the four that are left. Paul, Romney, Gingrich - and Santorum. These men represent such radically divergent views on Foreign Policy, Space Exploration, Social Conservatism. Consider the gap between libertarian and theological conservative. One stands for freedom, and the other stands for legislating morality. One would embrace a free market, and the other would construct welfare for the wealthy.

The impossible position that the party has found itself within - to pander to lobbyists, who spend flagrantly - and at the same time, attempt to embrace publicly - the concept that this party would spend less and stand for the working man - has divided the party along profound and deep lines that do not intersect.

My view remains that , while the Democrats have transformed themselves into the party of smart government - and action - the Republicans have delivered , with this primary - the one-two death punch to their own party. And there are many within the conservative base of voters in America - who would laud the beginning of a new party.

This is the meaning of the current primary season. It holds for many a morbid fascination. News Media Entertainment is all too happy to oblige. But. Why? The answer is simple: breaking things apart always made for better reality TV - than building them up.
