Fractal Time

The definition of fractal time, is time perceived and used by the cognitive process that is associated with the network we use to maintain self or primary consciousness. The application of a fractal moment, is to use or experience a moment of time, whether with another person, or any other natural experience - so that this moment of time can be either remembered vividly or connect to other thoughts or experiences in a way that the switching fabric of that network is either strengthened , bandwidth upgraded, or established anew. There are moments in your life you can remember, right now, without effort. These are experienced fractal time. You see them now as vividly as when they were first experienced. They are easy to perceive because they are a part of you. Time is not normally experienced by past, present and future but rather by finite moments... there is no continuous tic-toc type of flow you are feeling right now - no sense that you are travelling down a river of time to …

Every Little Thing She Does (Is Magic) / [AMV]

What I ask for In Exchange..

I spent the entire weekend for others. As usual. We had back to back sleepovers and parties , I did nothing but drive them around, cook the meals, etc. The last time I went out to party was. Never. Like. What, 5 years now? ... So this seems like a sacrifice. My daughter and I performed 'simple gifts' and well. About three errors, two mine, and she screeched a note. We received alot of compliments on the performance. Her atheist friend sat outside the sanctuary watching the performance through double glass and doing the Tai Chi thing. The other friends from her sleepover joined her and after the performance they left to play outside. The music director told me he wanted me to play every other sunday. In the middle of the night I did a series of battery tests on my new laptop. Now its time to actually put the thing to work. No more playing solitaire in bed. Results: Battery life over 2.5 hours, under standard load. And about 1.5 hours under heavy application use. A…

Story of a Creep

I caught a story today on CNN about a person who kidnapped an 11 year old girl, and kept her in a shed in his backyard. Total creep. Disease is characterized by a set of conditions and actions from either a person, an organ, or a set of cells - that stray from the tuned, natural behavior expected. For example, if we could withhold telomerase from cells, and set them into a condition where they could not replicate. The body would essentially freeze and start to wear out. That condition would be easily identifiable. And it would be a kind of disease. So, its easy to see this guy is a creep. He built a prototype of himself - then constructed a social networks that would allow and justify his actions. Its apparent the mind would continue to process the environmental factors and quickly reduce the problem to a state where the person could not maintain equillibrium. His inner voice was bothering him so he attributed another voice and called it God then told everyone he had a sec…

How to Use Distortion

Especially at town halls, where the purpose is to talk things out. The key is to remove the chance for simple discussion. All you have to do, is use some social networking - and add in a little canned fun for them - maybe, a free ride on your propaganda train. Then ship them anywhere you like. In this case, they're being shipped from all the way across the state to a rally in a single district. Then make sure you cut the lines of communication. Shout down the main speaker, or find some fault in him or her that demonizes them. You need to have the guy up there in front of everyone, whose purpose is to set an even agenda for discussion - be pushed away from facts and towards interpretation of the facts. For example, don't discuss the topic .. " What is the problem".. discuss the topic.. "Who is the problem". In the clip below, the person who's talking about Medicare brings up the point that theres a budget shortfall coming out of the Bush Administrat…

The Light Goes Off

Suppose you have a lightbulb. It is loose in its own contact base. The bulb itself was torn from the silver at the base, and hanging by the wires. You also have a tube of super glue, and some needlenose pliers. You can rip out the bulb, and then go digging into the base of the lightbulb with a pair of needlenose pliers, and risk electric shock. Eventually you will get it out of the base, turn by turn. The pliers will crunch the little base of the bulb. Simple, kind of like but the potato trick - but slightly involved. You can also glue the bulb into its place, even though its not going to ever light. As long as you keep the glue out of the connection, you can use the bulb to turn the dead light out of the socket and then throw it away. Maybe on some level, we make a decision the connection is more important than whatever's in it. We do this alot - in alot of different ways but the basic thing is the same. If you care about ever making a connection again, take care of th…

New Labels for Cigarettes

New warning labels scheduled to go on-package by 2012. Images courtesy of the CDC. One has to wonder, if healthcare passes - what sort of chain of events might occur to raise American life expectancy past 50th in the world? These images are actually on cartons in Canada. It is an illustration of what can happen when agencies like the FDA and the National Health Service , effectively can see each other's data. I find some of them, heavy handed - I don't think smoking particularly causes impotence. I happen to know a few people who are extremely active and don't necessarily see an effect from smoking. I also do not think we'll end up with Big Brother, as a result of Healthcare passing - I do however think its interesting that lobbyists seem to be unable to stop the decline of the American tobacco industry - I am told that these types of labels will be on cigarettes in America in 2009, so this didn't happen as a result of healthcare - but things like this probably…

And Page Five is Away..

Some things I want to share from the research, because alot of what I've written here about the basis of it all is kind of a head trip. First, we can pretty safely say now that networks don't work with entropy the same way that basic matter does. Networks can self-heal. What this means is, that if you've got a set of connections and you disperse the memory of that connection once damage inevitably occurs you can recover that connection as long as you're regenerating the things that can connect. Ok, lets take a simple example. The biggest network in America is the water system. Plumbing is everywhere, and water flows through it all. Say you have six connections to your block, all different points of the compass underground plus two midpoints. A line blows somewhere in the street. As long as the city has the map, they can send out a crew to re-establish service. And while that service is re-established guess what. They might as well fix the damage and replace …

Across the Universe - Trailer

Five Pages...

This looks embarassing, because it is embarassing. The fifth page is where I start reporting results and I'm missing some data. Grrrr.... You bring everything together, and think that just because you're there the party will start but ... As embarassed as I am, its still coming together. I plan to hang back today and get through to seven. Once I hit that wall I think I can finish -- the last few pages or so are just discussion, conclusion. Resolution. And then I pass out. The wifeness is angry at me for posting the countdown here, she thinks I'm showing off. No. no. no. no. no. I am not showing off. See that picture above, of the number five? I hate it. I chose it because I hated it. Three days to deadline.... I get to blogstomp this post if I make it past 7 today. This just in. Someone. Somewhere. Is celebrating a birthday somewhere around this time of year. We have word that it is, in fact, someone fairly cool. Breaking news.... a message from the far future h…

And again...

My daughter and I have a church gig. Two songs. Air/Simple Gifts and Bach Minuet 2. This is part of my homework:

P.S. I discovered outlining again last night. I guess High School was good for something after all. Countdown resumes at 12 ESDT (the only time I have to myself in this home).

We interrupt this countdown to bring you..

Politically Correct Bedtime Stories: Snow White.Once there was a young princess who was not at all unpleasant to look at and had a temperament that many found to be more pleasant than most other people’s. Her nickname was Snow White. After her mother’s death, her father, the king asked another wommon to be his queen. Snow white did her best to please her new mother-of step, but a cold distance remained between them. The queen’s prized possession was a magic mirror that would answer truthfully any question asked it. Now, years of social conditioning in a male hierarchial dictatorship had left the queen very insecure about her own self-worth. Physical beauty was the one standard she cared about now, and she defined herself solely in regard to her personal appearance. So every morning the queen would ask the mirror: "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who’s the fairest one of all?” Her mirror would anwer: “For all it’s worth, O my queen, Your beauty is the fairest to be seen.” That d…

And after editing...

Actually, I'm at four but the kids are going to bed in 15 minutes and almost done with page five. Damnit. These fourteen pages are going to be harder than I thought... sigh... but what the hell. What else have I got to do on a Saturday night, with a methodist minister for a nanny, a wife full of rage overseas - and a girlfriend in Los Angeles whose exclusive loveline to me, is to talk to me when she does her household chores? I got the laundry, the dishes. Whee. But thats neither here nor there. I don't get to play until I get a divorce, or a wife, or a girlfriend. No grey areas for this southern man. Now give me five!

Goodbye - Kristinia Debarge

I'm going to start a countdown (count up) to the end of the longest running research project ever to cross my desk. The next posts will be numbers. Each number will be a number of pages left counting back from the target submission length of 14 pages(my research coordinator and mentor at the NIH encouraged me to keep it short and for a grant like this, 14 is about as short as it gets (9 research objectives)). I'm pretty excited about this. Its the second time this year I've been sort of emotionally and psychologically unlocked about something so I'm hanging back here to finish up. Yeah, I know. Saturday afternoon. But I have to give a talk on this thing next week. So. Might as well. I'll be glad when all of this is out the door.

I noticed the guys that are deleting audio off youtube might be using something developed by some people here in Atlanta f/k/a the FastTalk algorithm. It can be shut down by putting silence up. Anyway, colorless. I'm out. Almo…

What was That?

My research paper just leapt right out of me. At least the first six pages or so. Incredible. Its even focussed . Seven pages to go and I'm done.

Here are some things I've been doing with you, that you haven't even noticed. Identifying speech acts - locating 'important' words and phrases, improving rejection accuracy, finding topic segment boundaries, locating and processing disfluences or asystematic prosody variance, indentifying user corrections in dialogue and identifying speaker and speaker rhythms, detecting speaker emotion. The collection of appropriate corporate and development of useful prosodic labelling schemes - its all over the place. The cricket tries to fit a certain number of chirps into a certain timeframe, he'll speed up and slow down but always trying to get a certain number done. Thats why, if you count a cricket's chirps it will tell you , to within 3 degrees, the night air temperature. The prevailing metric of success is how …

Wasting My Hate

Ah, in the middle of the night - how wonderful. I went for a walk, tearing out my hair, trying to solve a problem. I would walk for a quarter of a mile down a dark path, eyes closed - every now and then stopping to collect. At some point I sprinted as hard as I could. It must have seemed strange. But thats peripatetica. When I returned, for some reason I checked the mail before I went in. My priorities were straight again. This fucking blog is not one of them. But here I am, because .. well.. you'll see. So. I got a letter. This is the second letter I've received this year - bills excluded. So I take it to bed, seeing as how its fucking 3 AM. And I read it. Then the faint odor of kitten mistakes catches my nose and I spend the rest of the time cleaning up their stupid mistake. And that voids the area of my bed, letter still sitting there. Opened carefully. Reeking of catshit. Which leaves me with one of two options, finish up the work I started in my head during …

The Waiting - Tom Petty/ Eddie Vedder

Unable to Feel Again

The wind whipped hard under the eave of the gas station, driving the rain in sideways. I leaned the gas cap door out towards the wind to block the rain from getting into the gas, and backed off 3 meters from the edge while I watched the numbers fly towards twenty at a distance. The children were asking me, if lightning hit the car - what would happen. How strange, I remembered discussing this with a colleague only earlier today - how we had both smiled about living in Florida - how he had almost gotten hit by a bolt of lightning. I told them you would here a sound like this : Zzzzt. then. Pow! I told them you would see a kind of purple glow, and then I asked - but are we grounded? My friend had carbon tires on his road bike. We had rubber, filled with air. My daughter said .. so we're not conducting right.. Right. She seemed satisfied with her own answer. My fucking genius daughter. She spends all of her time these days making films with digital camera - stories of horses …

Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? - The Guild

Aha! in a Little Black Box.

It's a little black box. You play a note, and it automatically senses what note you're trying to play and tells you if you're flat or sharp. It lets you know firmly how the note varies as you strike it. I didn't realize a note changes pitch just as you strike it, or lowers slightly if you hit it a different way. I didn't realize alot of things. Our relationship is based entirely on insight. She's simple to use. You just set it down right next to you, powers off a few batteries and lasts forever. She is all about frequency. She's colorless. I guess you could say I'm in lurve...

Its Like Kissing Your Sister

A certain coldness exists
when one pulls the trigger
it is an exhalation
an absence of breath
a steady hand

Manly firmness, like they said in the Declaration of Independence
We the people
Breathe in
Imagine them in their underwear

Angular separation on silicon germanium
spreads the laser across your target
from this distance, like a big soft apple
It glows
Like that song
about that guy's sister

Sweet and clear
like moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
the road leads back to you

Heart - Magic Man

Look me in the eye when I am talking to you
pay attention
I will call you by your full name
I will make you understand
We will talk this out

Tell me what you think is wrong
What could have been a better way?
Sit down

And now I am going to give you a choice
between two options , I made them both
You see
This is for your own good

This is going to hurt Me
More than it's going to hurt you

Lets identify the belief

behind the behavior

Funny thing about slaves
You're cuffed to them

Doesn't that come with having small tits?
Doesn't a girl need something more?
Touch it
It's full of stars

I play the moonlight
Your eyes a wicked gleam
Lets count our blessings
While I count something else
A perfect circle
with words no-one express

Will you see it coming?
Welcome, Love
to the Dark Garden

Might Tell You Tonight - Scissor Sisters [AMV]

A story about the greater fool ..

Once there was a man who was going to be married to a woman. He visited her home for the first time, and found his fiancee's mother in the celler, crying. He asked her why she was crying? And she pointed to an axe stuck in the eave above the door and said .. "One day, it will fall down and strike someone on the head, and kill them. And it makes me sad." He looked at her. Just. Looked at her. Then said. "Ok. You're a fool. I'm not going to marry your daughter, unless I can travel round the world and find a bigger fool than you. But not likely." Later. He walked across an open field, and under the moon he found a group of men with sticks and they were sticking their sticks into the water for some reason. What are you doing? He asked them. One men replied, "We see the moon in the water, and we're trying to fish it out. But it keeps breaking each time we try..".. And he said. Thats foolish. But not more than his mother in law to be. S…

Go here and just do random things. Eventually it will become a poem. Not one of my poems. I did this back in the 90's with the workstation in my dorm room for a board called Junk Culture. I decided a while back that a good poem is worth writing and reading and won't happen the way they want it to happen (which is why I like Carl Sandburg). But eventually, if you play with this long enough, you'll be able to figure out why the internet can be a dangerous social medium. And I don't just mean the fact that my google ads say (18 Aug. 2009) "Meet Republican Singles".. or the fact that on the intenret nobody knows you're a dog. So. Anyway. Cheap thrills.

How to Catch a Virus from a Friend

There is a brilliant scheme going on, that is the shape of things to come - in terms of virus delivery. Here's how it works. You have instant messenger. Say you stay logged in. Well, a friend of yours from your own friends list, usually the first or near the first alphabetically - will message you. He or she will say "Check out my photos from last night". As fate would have it, the person who did this to me happened to be an understudy of Mother Teresa. And I knew him well enough to know. He would never. send. me. a . message. That said "check out my photos from last night". The last dialogue we shared, I was pretending to be the thing Pandora trapped in her box ( yes, demons can have instant messenger! it helps us pass the time!) and he was instant messaging me from just outside the box. A good friend. Know your friends well, almost to the point of their own little nuances. It will help. So right away I was curious. Then you check the domain and lo and…

How to Hate Old People, Kids, Pets and Others

To be fair, only certain kinds of old people, kids, and pets. Maybe some homeless people, and why not throw in a few foreigners. Those ones with the dark eyes. You really have to set them apart, make sure they're dealt with properly. Ok, you look like you're probably having a great day, walking along there. The sky is clear, and your head feels fine. I noticed your nice shoes, and your fine clothing. Mine is weatherworn. I am holding up a sign. What would ruin your day worse, than to catch a cold. Yep. Thats why you hate old people and adults don't play with kids. Thats right, I'm talking to you. Give me a quarter. Ok, then just click on a link up there from my Google ads, and I'll get a nickel and then I'll tell you the rest. I'm waiting... Hey, don't try to walk away. I'm talking to you. What? You say I smell funny. Want me to follow you to your car? .... click on those Google ads. ... Thank you. God bless you. ... Huh? Oh. Why you hat…

Fighting for Our Freedom

There are those who say
We're fighting for choice
We'll keep Government out of Healthcare
they'd drive our car
into the ocean

They're fighting for choice

They're fighting for the American Way

They're fighting to keep things the same

I didn't tell them our system
was a wave of mutilation

I just thought about the guy
who had to choose which finger to sew back on
because he couldn't afford to pay
They're fighting for that kind of choice

I thought about the little girl
who wasn't allowed to be at a hospital
because her HMO
would have overcharged her mom
and how her mother cried
and held the picture of her to her chest
They're fighting for that kind of choice

There was a choice the returning soldier

it was, thanks to national health -

For the Health of Our Country and Leader

The Lobbyists have paid off enough people, starting with Max Baucus - to have pushed the Obama presidency, in its first year - to the verge of its first major crisis in domestic policy. Bear in mind that a presidency is an executive branch of government - we saw over the weekend that branch of the government almost fold to the corrupting influence of the lobbyists. Bizarre messages, like a person in a fever dream - started coming out of the white house - like, for example a call to bipartisanship with republicans - all of whom flat out opposed every policy and have all signed on to oppose health reform in America - they stand against people like my wife, who cannot get healthcare because she had been severely ill - no preventative now for her, or anyone else like her. They stand against Veterans and military families . And the 140 million people and 76% of all Americans that support healthcare reform and want single payer included in the universal package. Think of this: 76% sup…

How Soon Is Now? - The Smiths

Why I Want to Leave America

Today we learned that over the weekend, the 1.6 million dollars spent per day by the Insurance Lobbyists, paid off. They bought themselves a president. The Obama administration decided to drop healthcare reform - their new language is "health insurance company reform". As if. This is the way to fight it. Stand with Dr. Dean Sign the petition. We put it up about 20 hours ago, and its already got 400,000 signatures. Please let the administration know this is the wrong way to go. This is not the time for half measures. With a 60/40 control of the senate, this reform can and will pass. America is a beacon of democracy, not lobbyism.

Why I Still Play SL

I still go into SL, although its so infrequent I am barely there at all. Total hours this year are, I think .. 1.5 .. played. If that. And in both cases, I was bringing two people in-world, to show them around for their first time. We didn't get around to world building. SL is an intensely creative medium, my problem was that my wife identified it as a vector for cheating on her and she literally destroyed my keyboard for playing the game. I developed a kind of whipped-dog aversion to the game, whenever I got near it I tucked tail and ran away. It was funny for a while, I would login just to sweep money out of my accounts and friends that I knew in there, would catch me just as I logged and go. Hey are you back? I'd say. No. Just taking money out of my accounts. My business finally folded in there, so much for that. It can only go so long without your attention, but to my credit I can build businesses that run on their own without me being their to babysit them. I hap…

Cinderella Man

Competition is established differently in men and women. From an early age, men understand dog psychology. We fight to be on top. In the film 'Cinderella Man' there is a moment when a fighter, James J. Braddock, is given a second chance , takes it and wins against a younger opponent. His wife goes to the apartment of her husbands manager to confront her husband's manager - who wants to use that win to chain him back into a career. She does not want her husband to be torn apart by younger men. She seeks to shield him from being physically destroyed. Although in the early 1930's , it was not known that the process of aging is a reversible process - amongst men it was known that older men are sometimes stronger, and more virile than younger men. Her husbands agent was willing to bet Braddock's life this was the case. He did not convince her. The agent's wife, asks her husband to go and get her guest some cookies. He of course, submits. Saying "Doesn'…

Taking them apart

I take things apart
I put them back together
I make new things
and make old things new again
I build bits and pieces of the future
I help people to work
I help people to speak
I help them to think
I attack where you live
I pass no judgements
I am your fucktoy
I am your husband
I am your lover
I am your friend
I make war
I make love
I make peace

that flows like a liquid
I am space and time

where we find hope

I explode in the night
I shatter through the clouds

CannonBall - Damien Rice

Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
Still I can't say what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannon

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage
Teach me to be shy

(Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't want to scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't want to lose her
It's not hard to grow

From Plato's Symposium

Hesiod does say that Chaos came first, "And then Broad-breasted Earth, the everlasting seat
Of all, and Love" Acuselios also agrees with Hesiod, he says after Chaos, these two, Earth and Love, but Parmenides says of Birth, that she Contrived Love the first of all the Gods. Thus many agree that love is the most ancient among them, and being the most ancient, he is the cause of the greatest good for us. For I cannot say what is a greater good for a man in his youth than a lover, or for a lover than a beloved. For that which ought to guide mankind throught all his life, if it is to be a good life, noble blood cannot implant in him so well, nor office, nor wealth, nor anything but Love. And what do I mean by that? I mean shame at ugly things, and ambition , and beautiful things. For without these neither city nor man can accomplish great and beautiful works. I say then of a man who loves, that if he should be detected in doing something ugly, or allowing him to be tre…

Those Three Words

I have a friend, perhaps more than a friend - an evolving friendship whose foundation at least in part depends on her own ability to be herself. When you are many things to many people, its not always as easy as it seems. She is intensely protective of her private life, completely unwilling to waste minutes on me with her cellphone - and other things conducive to the state of non-affair relationship limbo that we experience. Dogma - KMFDM

all we want is a headrush
all we want is to get out of our skin for a while
we have nothing to lose because we don't have anything
anything we want anyway...
we used to hate people
now we just make fun of them
it's more effective that way
we don't live
we just scratch on day to day
with nothing but matchbooks and sarcasm in our pockets
and all we are waiting for is for something worth waiting for

let's admit america gets the celebrities we deserve
let's stop saying "don't quote me" because if no one quotes you
you probably haven't said a thing worth saying

we need something to kill the pain of all that nothing inside
we all just want to die a little bit
we fear that pop-culture
is the only culture we're ever going to have

we want to stop reading magazines
stop watching tv
stop caring about hollywood
but we're addicted to the things we hate
we don't run washington and no one really does
ask not what you can do for…
