Real Numbers Behind Healthcare Reform
Today Joe Biden, Pres. of the Senate - quietly made it known that the senate will be open to the passage of the bill through reconciliation and the Parliamentarian will not be allowed the broader powers to subject the already-passed and already voted-upon house and senate bill that is currently heading to signature - to be routed through an arcane maze of bureaucracy. It will come to an up or down vote and it will be passed.
Those that decried the fate of Healthcare reform to have found its death upon the rocky shore of the Election of the Hon. Scott Brown not only find themselves to be in the wrong - but should also be quite aware that Scott Brown is now also voting with the Democrats on several key issues. The concept that the GOP may in fact die a natural death - not unlike the Whig, Tory, and Anti-Masonic parties of old - has taken root.
The GOP planned to create a Waterloo for the President - and have found themselves now trapped in a valley , encircled by the enemy - with no food and water. It is only a matter of time before the GOP - a party whose basic and core principle includes a fundamental efficiency in governance - and conservatism - will be dashed against the bush republicanism - the evangelical and failed world views that resulted in the biggest spending, most rapidly growing bureaucracy in the history of America.
Effecient, intelligent government comes by the consent of the governed. And in this case - it would appear that the Obama administration is now heading towards a form of victory that comes from the will and consent of the American people. Once healthcare reform is passed - with a real and viable benefit to everyday americans - it will, like social security - become a 'third rail' of American politics. That said, it is also an efficient proposal - the GAO estimates all programs will actually pay for themselves - and run at a surplus.
And I can get back to blogging about women named Betty Page.
